Of course, the S Dakota GOP cannot officially bring articles of impeachment against the greatest president in, dude, like forever. But they have raised a few good points with their convention resolution.
The South Dakota Republican Party state convention passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama Saturday.
The resolution says Obama has “violated his oath of office in numerous ways.” It specifically cites the release of five Taliban combatants in a trade for captive U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, Obama’s statement that people could keep insurance companies, and recent EPA regulations on power plants. …
“I’ve got a thick book on impeachable offenses of the president,” [Alan] Unruh said, calling on South Dakota to “send a symbolic message that liberty shall be the law of the land.”
But the SD GOP has, it would seem, its share of Establishment types who disagree.
Delegate David Wheeler of Beadle County disagreed.
“I believe we should not use the power of impeachment for political purposes,” Wheeler said. “By doing this, we would look petty, like we can’t achieve our political goals through the political process.”
You have to admit, releasing five war criminals and replenishing the enemy’s command leadership in a time of war are political and pretty danged petty grounds for impeachment. The least the SD GOP could have done was wait until they’ve killed a few more Americans.
Which any congressional representative who has in the past capitalized on tea party support can tell you.
Rep. Kristi Noem, South Dakota’s lone delegate in the House of Representatives — which has the power to initiate impeachment proceedings — was cool to the resolution.
Noem, who addressed the Republican convention Saturday morning, hours before the resolutions was voted on, doesn’t believe impeachment is the “best way” to deal with Obama.
“The congresswoman currently believes the best way for Congress to hold the president accountable is to continue aggressive committee oversight and investigations into the administration’s actions like the ongoing VA scandal, the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS, Benghazi, and the recent Taliban prisoner exchange,” said Brittany Comins, Noem’s spokesperson.
‘Continue aggressive committee oversight.’
You go gurl!
We still have all kinds of options on the table before doing something rash like following the Constitution. Like waiting for Eric Holder’s Justice Department investigations of wrongdoing in the IRS targeting, Benghazi and VA scandals to be concluded. So whenever any one of a half-dozen congressional committees finishes aggressively massaging overseeing these ‘allegations’ of White House misconduct, they can ask the AG to hurry up with all that.
Or, you guys could just demand that President Obama STOP DOING WRONG STUFF! immediately.
Stuff like that.
Anyway, this week in S Dakota.
