The death of Robin Williams took us all by surprise. I don’t know anyone who wasn’t saddened by the report of his suicide. He had a lightning wit, and almost no one had a straight face by the time he left the room.
My wife and several of her fellow flight attendant friends were once the brunt of that playful wit, and she says Williams was a charming and affable man.
But, as even some of the heretofore Obama aquarium cleaners in the media are beginning to notice, there are a number of things that one would think should garner Barack Obama’s attention before the death of a comedian.
President Barack Obama expressed his condolences on Monday to the family and friends of comic and actor Robin Williams, who died in an apparent suicide earlier that day.
Williams, 63, was found dead around noon on Monday at his home in Tiburon, California.
The president commemorated Williams for his “immeasurable talent” in the statement:
Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.
It should be noted that Obama issued this statement while on another vacation he promised the American people he would never take, if they elected him president.
Funny, border patrol agent Javier Vega Jr. was gunned down by two illegal Mexicans who have been previously deported more than a dozen times, and I don’t recall Barack issuing a statement concerning his untimely death. Not funny ha-ha, but odd. Maybe I missed that statement. Anyone?
Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi has been in a Mexican prison for months on trumped up charges, and the president has yet to make one public mention of him. In that time, four Mexican Federales were caught entering the U.S. illegally and were immediately returned to Mexico. Barack didn’t mention them, either, so I suppose that one’s a wash.
Tough luck for Sgt. Tahmooressi and the wife and family of agent Vega, though. They aren’t famous and rich or otherwise important in the universe that surrounds Barack Obama. They only put their lives on the line for us.
We’ll miss you Robin Williams and I wish you hadn’t committed suicide, but if you were going to, I wish you hadn’t picked yesterday to do it.
Barack Obama has enough distractions, as it is.
