U.S. Attorney General and Obama consiglieri Eric Holder decided to make a personal appearance in Ferguson yesterday, in an effort to … well, nobody’s sure why yet, but he was there.
Anyway, AG Holder kicked off his visit by making a speech about his own negative experiences with law enforcement, in which he was accused of… um, okay, speeding, but it could’ve been for looking at a white woman, or something.
FERGUSON, MO. — Attorney General Eric Holder flew to Ferguson, Mo., on Wednesday as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer leading an investigation into a police shooting.
He also arrived as an African-American who said he understands the racial tensions that have fueled days of protests that have been marred by violence and mass arrests since the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.
“I am the Attorney General of the United States, but I am also a black man,” Holder told Ferguson residents at a community meeting. “I can remember being stopped on the New Jersey turnpike on two occasions and accused of speeding. Pulled over. … ‘Let me search your car’ … Go through the trunk of my car, look under the seats and all this kind of stuff. I remember how humiliating that was and how angry I was and the impact it had on me.” [read more on faux racial bigotry here]
The good news is they didn’t impound his Mercedes.
Well, thanks for sharing, Mr. Attorney General. The two times the police incorrectly identified you as possibly having some African American lineage must have been painful. Of course, we only have your word that these incidents occurred. No reason to think you’d lie about anything that serious.
Just imagine the multiple times that no one noticed, but if they had, you would have probably been pulled over and referred to as a light-complected black man, or something equally as accurate.
Selma! Selma! Selma!
In reflection, I suppose what Eric Holder was trying to say, is that growing up in the plantation culture of, well, Queens, with immigrant parents, he understands what African Americans with 300 years of history in the U.S. feel. In this, of course, much like his capo di capi tutti Barack Obama — another semi-black African descendent who has nothing in common with the American black experience — Holder is clueless.
But he can pretend.
