I’ll admit to knowing almost nothing about Scotland and even less about its politics, but Scottish independence doesn’t seem like a good idea to me.
I mean, I keep asking myself how Scotland will support itself and I come up with tourism and scotch. And keeping the world blotto and having annual Bay City Rollers reunions somehow doesn’t seem enough.
You know, even Ireland built DeLoreans in the seventies. You guys don’t even really have shipbuilding any more. Or know what currency you’re going to use. The rest of the British Isles use the Euro and they can always fall back on the pound sterling, but what are you guys going to do?
Maybe you can sell off Balmoral to some American billionaire but in the end he’ll just dismantle it brick-by-brick and rebuild it in Lake Havasu.
And America cannot afford to support another Third World country. Maybe if you guys joined the Islamic jihad our government might find a way to slip you a few bucks, but short of that… nope, can’t think of a thing.
Don’t get me wrong, Scotland, we Americans want only the best for you. Okay, the Queen wears hideous hats but is it really all that bad?
Don’t just fall for the old ALBA GU BRÀTH! line; it may be passionate but it’s not that simple. You can’t just paint your faces and leave the rest to Mel Gibson.
In the end your politicians may not be any better than the Brits anyway; they’ll probably just raise your taxes and send your hard-earned… well, whatever currency you decide on, to places like Burkina Faso.
I keep thinking of ways you guys can turn a buck off of dead poets but so far nothing.
So chose wisely on Voting Day Scotland.
