Cuomo, who became a liberal icon in the 1980s, once said, in response to Ronald Reagan’s “Shining City on a Hill” speech, that America was a “Tale of Two Cities …”
There is despair, Mr. President, in the faces that you don’t see, in the places that you don’t visit in your shining city.
In fact, Mr. President, this is a nation — Mr. President you ought to know that this nation is more a “Tale of Two Cities” than it is just a “Shining City on a Hill.”
The Republicans believe that the wagon train will not make it to the frontier unless some of the old, some of the young, some of the weak are left behind by the side of the trail. …
Um, those folks in the covered wagons? They paid for them with their hard-earned wages—they were not government subsidized—and they brought their grandmothers and children along.
In fairness to Gov. Cuomo, though, they did not bring the town drunks, pimps and drug dealers. They got there, too, but without EBT cards to feed themselves on the trail.
We Democrats believe in something else. We democrats [sic] believe that we can make it all the way with the whole family intact …
Where? Did I miss something?
Of course none of this was true of Reagan or the revolution he inspired.
But Mario got one thing right.
There were and are two cities:
Mario’s City is one of welfare lines full of generationally dependent families, rampant drug use, and through-the-roof violent crime.
Reagan’s Shining City is one of independent, traditional families with reverential awe for the Creator from whom all rights descend.
Cuomo’s city was founded upon the notion that the state owes us a living; Reagan’s was created by hard work, personal responsibility, and a deep-seated commitment to family and country.
Yesterday the journos and pundits were asking the rhetorical question, “Why didn’t Cuomo run for president?”
The answer is simple for anyone who was there: Cuomo couldn’t have won with every Democrat ballot stuffer in the country working for him.
Reagan’s City was far too bright. …
So Mario has gone to that Great Socialist Utopia in the sky.
Let’s just hope that he finally has to live by the rules he established for everyone but himself and his limousine liberal cronies.
