It is no fun watching GOP candidates running from Donald Trump’s inartful statement on border security.
But it was predictable.
Republican hopefuls like George Pataki, John Kasich and Chris Christie wouldn’t have to change a whole heck of a lot, to reregister as Democrats and run against Hillary for that party’s nomination. That’s an exaggeration, but not a big one.
But when someone like Rick Perry – someone who has touted himself as a States Rights, small government, right right-of-center Republican – does it?
Well, it is downright embarrassing.
I have always liked Perry for his plainspoken anti-big government message. But when he cannot admit that we have a rampant crime problem stemming from our lack of border security, and when he mischaracterizes Trump’s statement as taking in all Mexicans, which it clearly did not…
Well, Perry doesn’t need to say another word. Because half the GOP electorate just stopped listening.
Those Mexicans are working for Mattel de Mexico, Telmex, and Pmex.
It’s hard to see how Perry gets anything more out of this than an occasional guest commentator slot at CNN or one of the networks.
But we’ll see.
