Will New Copyright Laws End Drudge Report?

matt-drudgeThey might, according to the Father of Aggregate Journalism, Matt Drudge. If our legislators in Washington, on both side of the aisle, have their way there would arguably be no more Instapundit, Hot Air, Real Clear Politics, Gateway Pundit, or hundreds of other aggregate news sites we enjoy reading everyday.

In fact, under possible new restrictions to Fair Use laws, bush league bloggers like Regular Right Guy most likely would not even be allowed to use small portions of this story and share my opinion with you about it.

Okay, so you won’t miss me; no need to be rude!

But read this anyway.

Kerry Picket, TheDC:

WASHINGTON — Congress may update digital copyright law affecting aggregator sites, like the Drudge Report and Real Clear Politics, along with news sites in the near future.

“Two years ago, the House Judiciary Committee launched a comprehensive review of our nation’s copyright laws, which have not been updated since 1976. As technology continues to rapidly advance, we have a responsibility to ensure that our laws are keeping pace with these developments,” Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement…

Drudge Report site owner Matt Drudge told Alex Jones of InfoWars last week that copyright laws could very well end his popular site.

“I had a Supreme Court Justice tell me it’s over for me,” said Drudge. “They’ve got the votes now to enforce copyright law, you’re out of there. They’re going to make it so you can’t even use headlines.”

Drudge added, “This is ghetto, this is corporate, they’re taking your energy and you’re getting nothing in return – nothing!” … .” [read it all]

In 1998, Matt revolutionized journalism when he learned that Newsweek magazine was sitting on a story about President Bill Clinton and a certain young White House intern named Monica Lewinsky, and ran it up on the Drudge Report.

It forced Newsweek to come clean.

Drudge was already known for breaking the story that Jack Kemp would be Bob Dole’s running mate in 1996, but no one remembers or cares about that. But without Drudge’s expose on the Mother of All Peccadilloes we may never have known about Monica Lewinsky or her “little blue dress.”

So who’s going to watch the biased media when he’s gone? When we are all gone?

Think about it…
