One of my biggest problems in coming to a decision in the 2016 race has been instances like the following.
For some reason the Drudge Report thought a religious attack like the one above would be constructive in the primary battle between the Establishment, Donald Trump, and the one guy in the race who actually has a chance between them.
Don’t go south on me, Trump supporters; Cruz does have a chance, albeit a very slim one.
But whether he does or not is irrelevant to the following discussion.
Bestselling author and senior editor at Conservative Review, Michelle Malkin, is calling Matt Drudge “anti-Christian” for his choice of headlines regarding an event involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, characterizing it as a “cheap tabloid shot” that exposes “ignorance and bigotry.”
The headline, posted to the Drudge Report Friday, involved a story of Cruz receiving the blessing of Pastor Gaylon Wiley, the man who not only baptized Cruz, but brought his parents, who’d been atheists, into the faith.
Interestingly enough, TheDC, co-owned by notable Palin basher Tucker Carlson, has been no great friend to either Trump or other conservative base candidates in recent years.
Also it should be noted that Michelle Malkin is Jewish.
Malkin continues:
“Laying of hands” on someone who a person is praying for is not uncommon in many faiths and, as Malkin points out in her video, was done for Donald Trump in September of 2015. Malkin called this a “100 point font sized double standard.”
“Funny, but I don’t remember the armageddon-style headlines about Donald Trump having hands laid on him at his Trump Tower just a couple of months ago by Christian and Jewish leaders,” Malkin said. “Holy hypocrisy Drudge, we have enough Christian bashers in the media, Hollywood and the White House. Next time, lay off the ‘laying on’ of the hands.” … [video]
Also interesting is that Drudge has singled out fundamentalist Christians, like Rick Santorum, in the past for snarky headlines and ridicule.
And, again, so has TheDC.
What am I saying?
Just this.
Ideologically, the base of the Republican Party and conservative independents are more closely aligned with Ted Cruz. The reasons why most of them are supporting Donald Trump are many, and many of those reasons may be valid.
Or not.
But we should be careful about mindlessly jumping onto the dog pile when these establishment rags set out to personally attack one of our opponent candidates.
They have their agendas.
And let’s not be all too sure at this point, that getting a Republican elected in November is on any of them.
