But there you go.
Jeb! Bush just came out for Ted, and that surely proves it.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is endorsing Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for president, adding to a trend of establishment figures slowly coalescing around the constitutional conservative.
“Today, I am endorsing Ted Cruz for President,” Bush once the establishment-anointed favorite to face Hillary Clinton in November, said…
For the sake of our party and country, we must move to overcome the divisiveness and vulgarity Donald Trump has brought into the political arena, or we will certainly lose our chance to defeat the Democratic nominee and reverse President Obama’s failed policies. To win, Republicans need to make this election about proposing solutions to the many challenges we face, and I believe that we should vote for Ted as he will do just that. [read it all here]
We needn’t prolong the agony for purists; suffice it to say Jeb took the silver foot out of his mouth long enough to get this painful task done.
And somehow the big PAC money found a way to work a partially-nude image of Melania Trump (I’ll assume meant to disparage undecided Republican Sunday school teachers?) into the announcement. Oh, yeah, that’ll work.
What could go wrong next?
Scott Walker, that’s what.
You know, Scott Walker, the 2014 Charles Krauthammer Fellowship winner? Walker the sensible footwear candidate?
Yes, that Scott Walker is about to give a tip of the unfortunately male-patterned pate to Cruz.
Of course Ted Cruz has not sold out to the establishment but he is certainly being dragged, if only symbolically, into the establishment camp.
Honestly, where else do they go?
And how much more desperate can they be?

Ideologically I am closer to Ted Cruz than any candidate in this race. Admittedly, I have had problems with his political instincts, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love the guy.
And I know I would love a Ted Cruz presidency. I yearn for a world in which a Ted Cruz could right the wrongs of 70 years of GOP smoke-filled backroom deals.
But I gave up that kind of idealism the year they nominated Bob Dole.
Maybe Cruz can somehow pull out a narrow second and bring a fight to the convention floor.
But the question is, will the GOP have a party when the confetti settles?
