Michael Sam Cowboys’ Up
I think it was Joe Theismann who said, “The word ‘genius’ isn’t applicable in football. A Genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.”
Joe was doing good until he mangled it at the end there. But this week the NFL, and by its shameless, inane cheerleading the mainstream media, proved the spirit, if not the letter, of Joe’s point.
We are now officially signing players to the NFL because it’s the political thing to do. Of course, by picking up Sam Dallas is only ensuring conformity to an established edict: Michael Sam must actually shower with other NFL players before being permanently cut.
Forget silly concepts like qualified and talented; Michael Sam is the first openly gay wannabee pro-ball player. How openly courageous!
Michael Sam is flying into Dallas on Tuesday night and will take a physical for the Cowboys on Wednesday, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
If Sam passes his physical, the Cowboys intend to sign him to their practice squad, the source said.
Okay, no “cough twice” jokes, please.
“It’s been a roller coaster this past week but I’m happy where I’m at now,” Sam told MailOnline. “I’m just looking forward to being a Cowboy, my focus is on making the team.”

What, because there are no 6’6″ 300 lb knuckle-draggers who can use the work? Well, I suppose it was either this or starring in his own Bravo reality series: “In the Huddle with Michael Sam.” Just kidding.
To Sam’s credit, he did manage to show a little class upon learning this week that he wouldn’t even be assigned a practice team position with the Rams. Which should surprise us, since he showed no class at all after he PC campaigned himself into the NFL.
Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman Laments:
First, let’s get this out of the way: When it comes to the Michael Sam story, well, we in the media partially screwed up.
It is true that we turned Sam into a nonstop melodrama. The story was unprecedented and historic and deserved a massive amount of attention, but some in the media took it too far….
So the media deserves part of the blame for Sam not playing in the NFL now. We made him a marked man. We Tebow-ed him. Each time Sam went to the field, there was a media marching band in pursuit.
Yes, but in the MSM’s defense God knows how badly Americans needed to see a guy sticking his tongue down another guy’s throat on Draft Day.
Let me get this straight.
You “Tebow-ed” Michael Sam? You really want to go with that, Michael Freeman?
Well, that’s certainly a creative way of saying the MSM dogged Tebow (who actually can play NFL-level ball) out of the game, while all but laying garlands at Michael Sam’s feet. If they could’ve gotten away with it, the media would have thrown Greco-Roman wrestling orgies for Sam.
But shame on Tim Tebow for being openly Christian!
Freeman is right about one thing, though. This is “a sign of modern-day America.” It is Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and its predictable repeal. It’s women in the military and the little-discussed epidemic of rapes and pregnancies that have followed.
It is every other place where sexual politics has no business intruding.
