Dump Boehner Junta Fail

They didn’t pull it off, but Speaker John Boehner saw more opposition than expected today, in his bid for reelection to another two years.

Speculation began early as the momentum mounted and the Establishment began to nibble their nails.

Fifteen House Republicans have now publicly proclaimed that they will try to strip John Boehner of a third term as speaker of the House, with several others wavering on how they will vote.

That’s well short of the number needed to push the public election into full chaos, but House Republican leadership is closely monitoring every movement at this stage, and working to shore up support for the Ohio Republican.

There was an array of GOP conservatives who said they wouldn’t vote for Boehner, and a few more who even threw their hats in the ring.

Boehner’s opposition grew Tuesday morning just a few hours before the vote. Michigan Rep. Justin Amash wrote on Facebook that he would “vote for a new speaker” after eight years of Boehner as leader. In 2013, Amash voted for Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador for speaker. Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), who originally signaled he would vote for Boehner, will oppose him, he announced — he voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in 2013. Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) joined the “no” list on Tuesday morning. And Texas Rep. I’m not sure Louie has the gravitas to be speaker, but, then again, how much gravitas does it take to tell Barack Obama to go #$%^ himself?

Anyway, I think the count grew to 25 who didn’t vote Team Boehner, the most since the 1920s.

If anyone had had a spare case of 20-year-old Jameson lying around, that might’ve worked; Boehner has already shown he can be bought with as little as a round of golf.

But, alas, it looks like Barry’s tee-time buddy will be with us for another two years.

Oh no. I just thought; if he hadn’t been reelected, we would’ve had to suffer through another inebriated crying jag.
