You knew it all along, but the millions of uninformed gudgeons who think they’re getting real news on NBC every night are just now learning that Brian Williams is a slimy, lying, self-aggrandizing mole.
NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams admitted Wednesday he was not aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a false claim that has been repeated by the network for years.
Williams repeated the claim Friday during NBC’s coverage of a public tribute at a New York Rangers hockey game for a retired soldier that had provided ground security for the grounded helicopters, a game to which Williams accompanied him. In an interview with Stars and Stripes, he said he had misremembered the events and was sorry.
Williams told his Nightly News audience that the erroneous claim was part of a “bungled attempt” to thank soldiers who helped protect him in Iraq in 2003. “I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago,” Williams said. “I want to apologize.” [read it all]
And of course that last part is also a lie. I know because I was there. Wait. No I wasn’t; I was actually back here in California misremembering whether I stopped a bank robbery at a Wal-Mart or carried people out of a burning Starbucks.
I’m being silly, but I think I know what may have really happened here.
It just occurred to me that the event Williams has described over and over for 12 years may have actually happened after all. Only he was covering Hillary Clinton and it was Bosnia. Everybody’s been making the comparison, they just haven’t put the two events together.
Easy mistake “conflation” to make.
I’m sure Mr. Williams will straighten it out.

So I guess that means I misremembered being a retired Air Force Brigadier General too, huh?
Utter BS! I lied, I deceived and deluded people. To a lesser extent so did Brian.
All this is inexcusable. As a consequence of my lies I lost everything but my wife and her dog. That was eight years ago. I spent 3 years incarcerated and the past four years, eleven months and five days on supervised release, a kind of federal probation. I have 23 days left to serve. But I also have a lifetime of walking the narrow path of redemption because I recognize the seriousness of my sins and crimes and I know that I am forgiven in Heaven, I must also reform and redeem my life on earth. Thank you RRG for being a friend and a passive guide on that path.
May God bless you and all of your readers.
