About a decade ago, I asked myself if I cared whether the planet burns up in 300 or a thousand years.
No, not really, was the answer that leaped out.
What about your descendants? How selfish! my inner George HW Bush said. Hey, the little twits can pound sand, Evil Me said right back. Living off the Regular Right Guy fortune without working a day in their lives for it.
But as it turns out, that argument never had to happen in the first place…
When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.
Two weeks ago, under the headline “How we are being tricked by flawed data on global warming”, I wrote about Paul Homewood, who, on his Notalotofpeopleknowthat blog, had checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. In each instance, the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.
This was only the latest of many examples of a practice long recognised by expert observers around the world – one that raises an ever larger question mark over the entire official surface-temperature record. [more here]
I’m going to resist the urge to wonder what Al Gore’s motivation to get up in the morning will be.
So the scientists were lying all along. Well, we knew that didn’t we?
You’ll have to go to Paraguay (obviously the last honest country on earth) if you want to see for yourself, but I’m taking the guy’s word for it.
After all, the people that created all this hysteria are the little jerks we hated in grade school anyway: The Bill Gate’s, Carl Sagan’s, Jonathan Gruber’s and that little Asian creep on the Discovery Channel with the long hair; computer geeks, math nerds, climate dorks, etc etc etc.
I’m sort of glad the planet is not going to burn up any time soon, but, as I said, I didn’t really care a whole lot anyway. Somehow a future world without Oprah Winfrey reruns and collectable Miley Cyrus DVDs never worried me.
And I suppose it’s good to know I’ll still have descendents here in 300 years.
Don’t spend it all in one place, guys.
