Former Texas governor Rick Perry is running for the Republican nomination for president. I know, huh?
Anyway, he came out blasting yesterday on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, especially against Donald Trump.
“…when someone shoots a bullet through John McCain…” Well, that may be a bit hyperbolic. Plenty of people thought Donald Trump’s remarks about John McCain’s service were disrespectful, but I don’t recall the senator dodging any bullets. And, incidentally, Marcus Luttrell evaded capture by the Taliban.
But Perry already made a scathing speech pointing out this and other things against Trump, and one has to wonder why he is still making such an issue of it after three weeks.
Does he really think Sen. McCain doesn’t have enough establishment Republicans to defend him, or that Americans haven’t made up their minds about what Trump said?
Then the governor says Trump is for single-payer health care, something of which we are not at all certain. But Perry has his own Democrat laundry; he wasn’t exactly born a Tea Party Patriot.
Something tells me this is more about Rick Perry’s dithering poll numbers than any threat Donald Trump presents to conservatism.
Don’t we have more pressing business? I’m still waiting to find out what Rick is going to do about the departments of Education and Energy and … what was that other one?
With Barack Obama moving into the ninth inning, and Hillary Clinton ready to bat cleanup, I am willing to listen to almost any candidate in the GOP field.
I just hope the Republican debates don’t turn into something like this:
