By now you probably know Seddique Mir Mateen, father of the Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen, actually said that.
And in less than 20 minutes was proven wrong, if not a boldfaced liar.
“We are apologising for the whole incident,” his father said. “We weren’t aware of any action he was taking. We are in shock, like the whole country.”
His father, Seddique Mir Mateen told NBC News that “this had nothing to do with religion” but felt it was likely triggered by an encounter with two gay men a few months ago.
“We were in downtown Miami, Bayside, people were playing music. And he saw two men kissing each other in front of his wife and kid, and he got very angry,” Mateen’s father said.
“They were kissing each other and touching each other, and he said: ‘Look at that. In front of my son, they are doing that.’ And then we were in the men’s bathroom, and men were kissing each other.”
I feel strangely impressed to paraphrase Solomon here:
Train him up in the way [you want him] to go, and when he is grown he will not depart from it. (Pr. 22:6)
If you wish, you may add a question mark to that paraphrase because it is certainly rhetorical, but one also has to be a little curious as to just what was going on in the Mateen household for the 20 or so years that Omar was growing up there.
(That is, unless you are a follower of the great Islamic apologist Barack Hussein Obama.)
Because, like the Tsarnaev brothers and Cool Clock Boy Ahmed Mohamed’s parents before them, the carpet in the Mateen living room appears to have more dirt under it than the Big Dig.
The father of Omar Mateen hosted a bizarre, shoestring talk show, in which he ranted about the United States and once declared his support for the Taliban.
Seddique Mateen posted dozens of hour-long episodes of his “Durand Jirga Show” on YouTube between 2012 and 2015. The clips cast a confounding shadow over the man who initially claimed his terrorist son was not religiously motivated in killing at least 50 people at an Orlando gay nightclub. …
Oh, nothing…
