Oh Good: Social Networking is Not Against Sharia Law

You guys have probably already heard this unless you watch a lot of MSNBC, but the attractive gentlemen blow just lopped off someone’s hand via live Twitter feed.

The extremist Syrian group deemed too radical even for al-Qaeda performed what may have been a Twitter first Friday: live-tweeting the amputation of a hand.

The amputation took place in the remote rural town of Maskanah in the northern province of Aleppo, according to a series of tweets posted by the account of a supporter of the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

The first showed a photograph of a blindfolded man having his arm positioned on a table by fighters as a masked man wielding a sword waits nearby. Another man, wearing a white robe of the kind favored in Arab Gulf countries, is reading a statement. A caption states that the blindfolded man is a thief who had asked to have his hand cut off “in order to cleanse his sins.” [WaPo]

We took a screen shot rather than linking directly, in case Twitter decides public outrage is offensive to, well, any group that might be offended by public outrage over an insane religious amputation.

Incidentally, the purported amputee was allegedly guilty of theft. Dang it! Why does WaPo always bury the lede?

Anyway, what’s the big deal? Probably happens in Dearborn all the time. When Walmart workers decide management is ripping them off.

Oh, and WaPo apparently didn’t think it was important enough to mention but the Syrian extremists in question are not Southern Baptists.

They are some other religion but who knows which one?

Note: So far the tweet has garnered 197 Retweets and 49 Favorites. Which is pretty good for a little heretofore almost unknown group that al Qaeda doesn’t want smearing the heretofore-stellar reputation of radical Muslim terrorism.
