Don’t Do It, Donald…

It appears that Donald Trump has relented and intends to let Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in the door for an interview set for sometime in late May.

Fox News’s Megyn Kelly, who was seen entering Trump Tower Wednesday morning, reportedly requested a meeting with the GOP frontrunner Donald Trump prior to a special broadcast with him airing on May 23rd. The substance of the meeting is to be revealed on her show Wednesday night.

Fox News released a statement about the meeting:

FOX News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes has spoken to Donald Trump a few times over the past three months about appearing on a FOX Broadcasting special with Megyn Kelly airing on May 23. Kelly requested a meeting with Mr. Trump, which took place at Trump Tower this morning. The results of that meeting will be revealed on tonight’s Kelly File at 9 PM/ET. Kelly has acknowledged in recent interviews that Trump is a fascinating person to cover and has electrified the Republican base.

Kelly and Trump have been sparring since Trump charged she treated him unfairly during a GOP primary debate hosted by Fox News last August.

Trump should not do this interview.

For someone who hasn’t come out for Trump I sure spend a lot of time getting in trouble for defending him. But I have always said Trump is what you get when Republicans and Democrats mate.

Donald Trump is the result of decades of party insider dealing, and I cannot blame any conservative for supporting him. He is not a conservative, but a lot of you seem to be willing to roll the dice, and so be it.

Nor can I ignore the fact that some in the so-called conservative media are filling supporting roles as establishment culprits rather than objective journalists.

Michelle Fields is one of my cases in point.

Fields is the former faux pro-Trump Breitbart reporter who was shuffled back when she waded inside the candidate’s security bubble and then subsequently lied about the severity of the “attack” by Trump manager Cory Lewandowski.

I proved to be right.

The Florida prosecutor all but laughed Fields to scorn yesterday in booting her criminal complaint.

Then there is Kelly, who in the first Fox News debate, after the panel fielded policy questions to the other candidates, blindsided Trump over his five year feud with Rosie O’Donnell, an amoral bomb-throwing liberal who can’t get along with anyone.

Kelly is an ardent feminist and supporter of gay causes and the question was, in my opinion, a setup.

Hell, the entire Fox network has an anti-Trump bias; Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren are the only ones in the house who even pretend to give him a fair hearing. At this point it would be impossible for Kelly to even feign fairness with Trump.

Donald Trump has absolutely nothing to gain by agreeing to an interview with Megyn Kelly. And let’s not fool ourselves, the interview, if it comes off, and it probably will, will not be about candidate Trump.

It will be more about rehabilitating Kelly’s – and Fox’s – image with conservatives, than giving Donald Trump a fair shake.

Call me cynical; but I will always be dubious of a so-called conservative who seems more comfortable pealing her clothes off in front of a GQ camera or mugging for the cover of Vanity Fair, than she ever will be setting down one-on-one with Donald Trump.
