That is the only reason I can think of to explain why Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) thinks that Donald Trump’s landslide electoral victory somehow delegitimizes our soon-to-be 45th president.
Trump probably even won the popular vote if you exclude the couple million illegals who voted in my home state of California and a few other places.
No, really, the man’s memory is clearly shot.
Rep. John Lewis managed to dominate the news this weekend by declaring that, like at least 30 (update: make that 40) other Democrat members of the House so far, he will not be attending the inauguration, nor does he consider Donald Trump a legitimate president, blaming Russian tampering in part for helping “destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.”
On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Lewis said the inauguration Friday “will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress.”
A few, however, fact-checked that claim and found that Lewis did not attend George W. Bush’s inauguration in 2001 either.
You can read the rest here.
I suppose in some circles getting hit in the head with a brick 50 years ago automatically exempts Lewis from being the despicable lying racial bomb thrower he has turned into since making the historic Selma march with the valiant Dr. King.
But it shouldn’t.
Here is the illustrious civil rights “icon” in 2010, when he falsely claimed that peaceful Tea Party protesters spat on him and called him the N-word.
Now that is deplorable, especially in light of the fact that the late Andrew Breitbart offered a $10,000 donation to the United Negro College Fund for anyone who could produce even a snippet of video or audio evidence to support Lewis’s bogus allegations. And considering that every news service from here to Burkina Faso covered that event.
[Insert crickets audio here]
This should bother Republicans far more than it has.
Why is it that every time this week that any GOPe senator, congressman and political pundit has commented on this issue, they somehow feel obligated to preface their remarks with “John Lewis is a civil rights hero,” “I have deep respect for John Lewis,” or other such Beltway blather?
Townhall.com even mischaracterized Lewis’s reason for not attending the Inauguration, claiming, “As a result of this very public feud, Lewis and several other Democratic congressmen will not be attending Friday’s inauguration.”
No, Townhall, that is not the reason John Lewis and his fellow Democrats are not attending the Trump inauguration.
They are not attending because they’re spinning a false narrative designed to deceive morons who are still willing to accept their lies without checking them out.
Getting hit in the head with a brick while marching with Martin Luther King, may be a reason Lewis can tout in areas of Georgia where the African American high school diplomas are at a premium and 25% of young blacks live below the poverty line repeatedly reelect this fraud.
But it is not an excuse for any honest, informed American to respect this race-baiting liar.
